Goodnight, Ed
Ed Bradley, 60 Minutes journalist, just passed away from leukemia. He always seemed like one of those people that would be interesting to meet in person. Journalists who don’t inflict their opinion on their audience seem to be part of a rare breed nowadays. I was just reading the story about him on npr.org and I especially liked this quote from former 60 Minutes producer Don Hewitt from when he introduced Bradley for a journalism award.
“I said to the crowd: ‘I hired Ed Bradley because he’s a member of a minority.’” Hewitt says. And after a pause, hearing some in the crowd gasp in surprise, Hewitt went on: “He’s a great gentleman and a great reporter. And if that ain’t a minority, I don’t know one.”
Rolling…Action!
This weekend brings lots of interesting things to keep me busy. I’m going to be directing a video project, complete with crew for the first time since college. Since then I had been working alone or with only one other person. It’s going to be a little odd not writing the script, running camera, etc., so hopefully I won’t get tremendously bossy and try to completely take over! (haha). The project (done by the Mason City Public Library) is a series of short films about local history for elementary students. I’m really looking forward to getting my video-makin’-magic working again.
Derek and I are also planning to break out of our anti-social tendencies and actually have people over. Should make for a good time.

Felt Balls (Get Your Mind Outta the Gutter!)
I made this thing the other day from a pattern I found online. I made a few changes here and there, but here’s what I came up with:

Incredibly inexpensive and easy to make. I’m thinking of doing more as Christmas gifts. Here’s the original link for the pattern:

| What American accent do you have?
Your Result: North Central
“North Central” is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw “Fargo” you probably didn’t think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot. |
