In the waiting line.

Chairs!

I shot this one at work yesterday. There were chairs in the hallway outside my office since they’re converting the next door conference room to a room with more cubicles. I liked the way the chairs were all lined up–like they were waiting for something.

Tonight Derek and I find out if we placed in the MacNider photo show. Wish us luck. Or even better, stop by the reception and say hallo.

Clique.

Last night I had my 10 year high school reunion. I think I’m officially getting old. It was surreal seeing all these people again, and they were just as cliquey as they were back in high school. Luckily Derek and I were able to find a few fellow outcasts to sit with. We didn’t last there much past dinner. It was pretty sad with how awkward it felt being there. I knew I hated high school for a reason. Eh, at least I’ve got the curiosity bug out of my system and we won’t have to go back for the 20 year.

Tiger lily.

Tiger lily!

I found this little guy finally blooming when I stepped outside this morning. The plant is pretty stunted and short (due to the bizarre weather we had at the beginning of the growing season) and the bloom is somewhat yellowy this year instead of its usual unnatural-looking bright bright bright orange, but it’s blooming and has plenty of buds!

Sightings.

I keep forgetting to post a link to this. The MacNider Art Museum is having their annual art festival this weekend and I love their marketing this year. Check it out. It made me giggle. Also, if you’re in the area, go to the art festival. Today are mostly events aimed at kids, but tomorrow is the art market. I know I’ll be there.

Renovation, retirement.

Last night the foundation that’s fixing up the Park Inn (the last remaining Frank Lloyd Wright-designed hotel) was giving free tours, so we took a peek. I’ve been curious about the place the past few years and was glad to finally get in for a look. I wish so badly that I could have taken some photos. The exterior is in great shape now through all the work the group has done, but the inside is still in varying states of decay. They’re planning to have the place up and running as a functioning hotel again in three years. They’ve definitely got their work cut out for them, but I can’t wait to see it.

On the walk home I took this photo:

Retired!

If I remember correctly from when I was little, it was the door for a barber shop. The sign and the texture of the worn wooden door made for kind of an interesting image, I think.

Goodnight, etc.

Yesterday was rough. We finally decided to put poor little Lizzy to sleep. She had a really long life for a rat and she wasn’t doing so well anymore. It’s such a hard decision to make, but there’s something to be said for quality of life. Poor girl. We’ll miss you, sweetie.

Lizzy!

……….

In an effort to cheer myself up yesterday, I found a bunch of new links:

Since I haven’t made any videos in a few years I’ve been a little rusty…so I’ve been brushing up on the basics online while at work. I was looking at this site (not a bad one for beginners, btw, despite the outdated page design) and the video on this page made me laugh. Gotta love those old newsreel-type films from that era. I especially liked that the character’s name was ‘old Pete Feltman’ (same name as a buddy of mine from the former Skreak).

A funny list of Things to Avoid Buying on Amazon. I hope no one actually falls for that crap.

A gallery of small videos showing airline sickness bags that have been rigged up to move as if they are breathing/hyperventilating when open. If these were found in Boston, I’m sure the bomb squad would be all over ‘em. Click on the images of the bags to view.

A fake iPhone commercial–skillfully done using clips from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

And finally…from the BBC–footage advertising the 2012 Olympics has been pulled from tv due to causing seizures. Eep! As if the logo itself wasn’t bad enough!

Sunday afternoon.

More photos…

Clock!

I bought this clock awhile back and we finally got around to hanging it. I’ve always wanted one of those spacy spindly clocks. Not bad for three bucks.

Sumi!

My boys…a rare time where they’re both playing nice for the camera. And yes, that is a dogs playing poker tapestry on the wall behind them, thank you very much.

Memorial weekend memories.

Last weekend I was having some issues with signing in to my site from the laptop, and after getting that sorted out, I totally forgot to post the couple of photos I took from memorial day weekend, that were saved on said laptop. Here they are:

Calla!

My calla lily bloomed! I’d been looking for years for a white one. I’m so glad I found one the year I (and Derek, of course) have actually been taking decent care of the outdoor plants. The indoor plants are another story. Baby steps, baby steps.

Band Festival toilets!

This is my one and only photo from Band Festival this year. We went down to the park on Friday to people-watch, but there just wasn’t much going on. I’m not sure if that was due to poor planning or rain the previous day, but neither one of us were that impressed. Too bad, really. I have such fond memories of Band Festival from when I was little. The music, the carnival, the people. It’s just lost its charm as I’ve aged.
