Wiz-bang!

I’m absolutely shocked by this. I signed up for an account on deviantart.com to display the wallpapers I made on Friday, and I’ve had a ton of people download them already. Wha?! The most popular one was this one with 42 downloads (as of the time I last checked). Insanity. Absolufreakinawesome!

Expansion

I’ve been busy on my afternoon off work and added a new section to the site: Downloads. So far I’ve got a bunch of wallpapers from photos I’ve taken. Feel free to download whatever tickles your fancy. Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.

An exercise in optimism

I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately, not seeing the good in much of anything…not really understanding the point of much I’ve previously enjoyed. Today I challenged myself in a very basic, and yeah, stupid-sounding way. While working on graphics, etc., I usually listen to music. You know how when you buy or download a CD, how there is always at least one song that you don’t care for or really irritates you? My stupid-sounding challenge for the day was to listen to every song that came through the rotation, no matter how awful, and try to find the good in it. The reason that someone else might have liked it enough to record it. Something positive in the thing that normally offends my ears for whatever reason. I think it’s helping in some small, strange way. I think my next step will be to transfer this practice into thinking about the people I interact with on a daily basis (mostly the ones that irritate or irk me). What is good about these people? Everyone has something worthwhile about them. I’ll teach myself to look for it. After that is completed, I’ll turn the aim onto myself. Not something I particularly enjoy, but something that I’ve needed to do for a while.

Quote of the day

I wish I didn’t feel compelled to write this

Despite all I went through there, my friends know I’m still one of the Globe Gazette’s biggest supporters. I still have a lot of love for the newsroom staff. They were like family. However, it looks as though the web team launched a redesign today. My initial reaction: ick. Difficult to navigate and it looks pretty amateurish. Also, depending on screen resolution, all the stories are located “below the fold.” Not good. Sorry guys…looks like a miss on this one.

Piggy’s in the house

This has to be the second strangest item I’ve found while thrifting:

Piggy Smalls!

I got it during my lunch break when I stopped by the Opportunity Village thrift store. Best $1 I’ve spent in a while.

I figured my boss would get a kick of it, so I showed him when I got back to work. He mentioned that I needed to name it. I’ve been wracking my brain, but I finally thought of it: Piggy Smalls. Awful. Bloody awful. But isn’t that the point? I’m not sure where we’ll hang it, but I’ll post a photo once it finds a home.

And to answer any questions, the first strangest item was over 10 years ago at a junk store in Rockford: a bizarre seashell encrusted shrine with a glow in the dark crucifix featured in the center. I stupidly gave it away years ago. I definitely wish I still had it. It was one of those once in a lifetime finds.

Worried that this wasn’t a good idea

Tidal wave of terror

Our Tivo decided to suggest Attack of the Crab Monsters. The only person I recognized from it was the guy who played The Professor from Gilligan’s Island. I love that you could totally see the strings on the killer crabs. So bad it’s good. Here’s the original trailer:
