Photo Booth stupidity
Bored and stuck at home today recovering…so I messed about with Photo Booth on the Macbook. Enjoy.
Link day
Here are some fun science/anatomy-themed links I found the other day, y’all, y’all…

Thanks to Street Anatomy for displaying many of these links.
Sumi Illustrated
At work yesterday I was trying a new technique in Adobe Illustrator. This was my first attempt at creating an image from scratch:

I based it off of a photo of Sumi, our rabbit. Not too shabby for a first attempt, I think. Gotta love those adorable shaggy ‘chops.
Whoop! Whoop! Whoop!
More fun with the HeroMachine 2.5:

A hero for all seasons
Feeling like you have no one to look up to? No mentor? No personal superhero? Well, get off your duff and do something about it! Make your own! Here’s what I made, using the HeroMachine 2.5:

I was mesmerized by the recolor-able fanny pack and molded the rest around that. The other one I made probably shouldn’t be posted here. My friend Chris’ comment was, “That’s a whole lot of guy and not a lot of mini-skirt.” Needless to say, it wasn’t very pretty. If you make one, post a link. I’d love to see what other deranged things can come out of that bit of code.
Spice Gun review in two sentences or less

For some bizarre reason the Spice Gun (pictured above) reminds me of the spice weasel on Futurama.

By the way, I love that the spice weasel seems like more of a throwback to
the Flintstones than anything in the imagined future.
Stare deeply into his eyes
I recently bought a mini-studio set and only got one shot taken before my camera battery died. Oops. Here it be:

I’m not sure why I choose such weird things as test subjects…this creepy gnome and the giant plastic snowman I used at work. I’ve got some fun plans for the lighting setup running through my head. I’ll just have to wait until I make a new white background for it (only came with grey and blue? Weird.)…and of course until my battery is recharged.
Doodle boodle
In honor of the doodle-esque redesign, I scanned in a bunch of my doodles to share.
According to the Anna Koren Graphology Center, here are what my doodles say about me:
Geometrical shapes - Triangles, squares, pattern formations: organized brain, clear thinking process and planning skills, meticulous planning on one’s steps, efficiency, purposefulness.
Abstract shapes - Tension, difficulty and disturbances in concentration.
Repetitive shapes - Patience, perseverance, methodical, developed ability to concentrate.
Bars/crosshatches - A sense of suffocation, a need to escape, a desire for freedom, a feeling that his actions are restricted.

Good design is aesthetic
Good design helps a product to be understood
Good design is unobtrusive
Good design is honest
Good design is durable
Good design is consistent to the last detail
Good design is concerned with the environment
Good design is as little design as possible
Strange-ish education
In the same vein of the article 12 Classes We Wish Our Schools Had Offered on Mental Floss, I decided to look into some of the more unusual classes Mason City’s own North Iowa Area Community College offer (taken directly from their catalog). Take a peek…

Students will develop their working video game. The students will then thoroughly test other students’ video games. [Am I reading this right? Is this a class on how to PLAY video games?]
Stocks, Bonds, and Investing: Oh My! (1 s.h.)
Stocks, Bonds, and Investing: Oh My! emphasizes preemptive planning for a financial account by comprehending financial markets through identifying how financial markets operate. This course has been designated as a pass/no pass course. [Yeah, the name did it for me on this one.]

This course will go into more depth using the tools and concepts students were exposed to in Information “Data” Assurance. These methodologies are presented within the context of properly securing the network. The course will emphasize network attack defense methodologie with the emphasis on student use of network attack techniques and tools. The concept of Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) will be strongly emphasized in this course along with several of the CISSP CBK domains. [Again, loved the name.]
College Reading Strategies (3 s.h.)
Designed to help students become more efficient and effective in reading college textbooks, required materials, leisure articles, and books. Course adapts to the style and needs of each individual to improve vocabulary, comprehension, rate, and study skills. [I would think this would be a skill necessary to get INTO college.]
Listen to Your Heart and Success Will Follow (1 s.h.)
Intelligently facilitated and fast-paced, Listen to Your Heart and Success Will Follow will help you enjoy the rewards that come from doing what really makes you happy!
